It is important to follow all instructions shipped with this product. This device is to be installed by a
trained electrician who is thoroughly familiar with the National Electrical Code and will follow NEC
Guidelines as well as local codes. Marine installations shall be in accordance with Title 46, CFR,
Parts 110‑113.
The selection of the mounting location for the device, its controls and the routing of the wiring is to
be accomplished under the direction of the facilities engineer and the safety engineer. In addition,
listed below are some other important safety instructions and precautions you should follow:

• Readandunderstandallinstructionsbeforeinstallingoroperatingthisequipment.
• Disconnectpowerbeforeconnectingordoinganymaintenanceonthisintercom.
• Alleffectivewarningspeakersproduceloudsoundswhichmaycauseincertainsituations,perma‑
nenthearingloss.Youshouldtakeappropriateprecautionssuchaswearinghearingprotection.
• Aftertestingiscomplete,provideacopyofthisinstructionsheettoalloperatingpersonnel.
• Establishaproceduretoroutinelychecktheintercominstallationforintegrityandproperopera‑
tion.AnymaintenancemustbeperformedbyatrainedelectricianinaccordancewithNECguide‑
lines and local codes.

witha1/2amp250volttypeGMCfuse.Theunitalsoofferstransformerisolatedaudioinputs
andinternallyselectableMasterorSlavemodecongurations.Acallbuttonwithremotecall
dry contacts is also factory supplied in the unit.
TheAD-28X-MVhasaType4XenclosureandisaULListedTypeNM(non-monitored)
signalapplianceandMarinesignalapplianceforindoororoutdooruseandisCSACertied.
TheAD-28X-MVisadditionallyListedforClassI,GroupsA,B,CandD,Division2;Class
II,GroupsFandG,Division2;andClassIII.
WireallcircuitsconnectedtotheAD-28X-MVIntercomusingClassI,Division2wiring
methodsspeciedinArticle501-4(b)oftheNEC.
MASTER MODE:
TheintercomcanbeconguredasaMasterunit(Push-to-Talk)oraSlaveunit(Push-to-Listen)
bychangingtheMAS/SLAjumper(J2)ontheprintedcircuitboard(seeFigure6).Theintercom
comesfromthefactorysetintheMaster(MAS)mode.
IntheMastermodetheintercomactsasanamplier,constantlybroadcastingoveritsspeakerany
signalthatitreceivesonthesignallines.HoldingdowntheListen/Talkswitchchangestheunit
fromaspeakertoamicrophone(seeFigure1).Theintercomwillnowtransmitoverthesignal
linestoadditionalintercom(s)alsosetintheMastermode.Whentheswitchisreleaseditwill
defaultbacktotheListenorSpeakermode,allowingtheusertoreceiveanymessagestransmitted
backtoit.
SLAVE MODE:
Someapplicationsmayrequirethattheintercomconstantlytransmit(i.e.actasamicrophone)
asopposedtoconstantlyreceive(i.e.actasaspeaker).Toaccomplishthistheintercommustbe
conguredintheSlave(Push-to-Listen)mode.
